Innovations in exercise scheduling!

One of the things JuJu and I discussed on Friday was making time to exercise, especially now that Mom requires so much more of my time. It’s become my priority - figuring this out. Perhaps I’m now officially off my rocker, but an interesting opportunity presented itself yesterday, and it’s been on my mind BIG TIME!

During yesterday’s grocery store trip, one of the managers approached me AGAIN about working there - doing anything I want, on whatever schedule I want. They pay a little above minimum wage. Now, don’t get me wrong - I don’t make a fortune as a medical writer, but when I’m looking for a way to make extra money, it’s more efficient for me to get freelance work than a minimum wage job.

But wait a minute - There’s a hidden opportunity in here. One of the jobs is as an internet shopper. This store allows customers to order their groceries online, and someone in the store does all the shopping, checks it out, and bags it. In short, SOMEONE IS WALKING AROUND THE STORE! And it’s a big store - about an acre, I think.

If I did this, say, 4 hours a week, that’s 4 hours of walking, bending, lifting. And getting a little bit of money on top of it. All I have to do is schedule it. Let’s see - when could I do this? an hour on Saturday, perhaps an hour on Sunday. At 9 pm a couple of nights during the week.

But let’s look at this again. Taking this job would amount to making an appointment with myself to exercise. I shouldn’t have to go to this length to make this important date. On the other hand, since someone would be counting on me to show up, I’m more likely to show up and do it.

And here enters that all-important question: Aren’t I important enough to keep this essential appointment with myself? What makes a grocery store chain so much more important? Why would I do this FOR THEM, and not FOR ME?

On the OTHER other hand [here comes the octopus again!], the weather will be getting colder, less pleasant, and it would be nice to be indoors to exercise. But isn’t this why I have a gym membership?

So, here we go again. Gotta make the appointment with MYSELF - and make sure I keep it.

I already started. Miss Maggie and I were out walking before 6:30 am - in the dark. And we walked for about 40 minutes. Because I’m worth it.

And so are you. Make the appointment, even if it’s just for 15 minutes. KEEP IT!!!!!
